Novice Play

  • Have you taken lessons, but now you don't know anyone to go out and golf with you?
  • Are you afraid that you'll look like a complete fool if you try to golf?

Don't worry -- there are a lot of other people in the same boat....

We welcome anyone who has taken lessons (here or elsewhere) to play anytime, but we also set aside special times for novices. The tee is reserved for novices ONLY, so no "good" golfers will be behind you.

(2008 Novices: Mondays at 7:00 p.m.).

It's very flexible. Play whenever it works for you. You can miss as many weeks as you need to miss.

At minimum, we ask that novices have taken some sort of lessons in the past, because our staff just circulates on the course to assist -- we aren't out there to teach everything from scratch, nor can we spend the whole evening with just one person.

That said, we don't expect novices to really know what they are doing. If it takes a half hour to play one hole, it's OK (and we'll then offer pointers on how to play faster). That's why we don't put 'regular' players on the course following novices. Some people only get in three holes or so. We don't expect anyone to keep score.

Anyone is welcome, and we have had experienced husbands and parents play along with novice wives and children.

For more experienced players, the thing to remember is that we do pair up players, so you may play with or behind very slow beginners. If you are patient, you are welcome to join in. You may learn some things or be able to help someone else.

(We occasionally end up with very skilled but very cheap players who are enticed by the low greens fee but refuse to play with beginners or who start on the first hole with them and then jump off to an open hole on another course. These are really the only people we don't want to see on Novice Night.)

There is only one way to get better at golf, and that is by getting out and playing. Join us and make those lessons that you've taken pay off!
